Week 13 Thoughts and Quotes

Thoughts: This weeks readings continue to solidify my stance on how we should balance or lives and the directions we need to go to make that happen.  What I’ve noticed from reading and watching the videos is figuring out where you are at in your life and the struggle to decide which direction is best to get you to where you want to be.  As always, making goals are a huge part of that.  Most of the advice I’ve noticed throughout the semester and especially this week in watching the videos is in regards to starting things out right out of college.  Most videos agree to start with an enterprise to get your feet wet before moving on to your life’s greatest desires.  They caution to make a job fun!  Don’t go into career knowing you are going to hate it but struggle to get through it for a few years.  You should take a job that matters to you and that you will enjoy. Week 12 Questions, Thoughts and Quotes

Questions:  Based on what you read in the first two pages, why are virtue and integrity so vital to an economy?  Most people feel that the executives are only out for themselves instead of for the employees. Also, they are trying to up their stock share price by doing more underhanded things such as acquiring businesses to gain more value. Executives are using stock options as a means to gain their wealth instead of through organically growing their businesses.  According to Charles handy, what is the real justification for the existence of businesses? Companies are treating their employees as costs instead of treating them as the valuable assets they truly are. Companies are out to make a profit, but at what cost?  What are two solutions proposed by candy that you agree with?
