Week 13 Thoughts and Quotes

Thoughts: This weeks readings continue to solidify my stance on how we should balance or lives and the directions we need to go to make that happen.  What I’ve noticed from reading and watching the videos is figuring out where you are at in your life and the struggle to decide which direction is best to get you to where you want to be.  As always, making goals are a huge part of that.  Most of the advice I’ve noticed throughout the semester and especially this week in watching the videos is in regards to starting things out right out of college.  Most videos agree to start with an enterprise to get your feet wet before moving on to your life’s greatest desires.  They caution to make a job fun!  Don’t go into career knowing you are going to hate it but struggle to get through it for a few years.  You should take a job that matters to you and that you will enjoy. My final takeaway this week is in regards to your entrepreneurial business.  You’ve s...

Week 12 Questions, Thoughts and Quotes

Questions:  Based on what you read in the first two pages, why are virtue and integrity so vital to an economy?  Most people feel that the executives are only out for themselves instead of for the employees. Also, they are trying to up their stock share price by doing more underhanded things such as acquiring businesses to gain more value. Executives are using stock options as a means to gain their wealth instead of through organically growing their businesses.  According to Charles handy, what is the real justification for the existence of businesses? Companies are treating their employees as costs instead of treating them as the valuable assets they truly are. Companies are out to make a profit, but at what cost?  What are two solutions proposed by candy that you agree with? Why?  I like the exit of companies like you in a lever as well as city court going into undeveloped countries to help find their societies. This can help those nations survive in t...

Week 11 Thoughts and Quotes

Thoughts:  This weeks videos and talks were all very well put. In fact, I asked my husband to watch a couple of the videos. I loved learning about Jim Ritchie’s success in the Financial Fitness video, and the way he went about having enough money to live off of with the investments that he made and the different savings accounts he added two.  These are strategies that I would like to visit in the oven coming weeks and months ahead. I love the idea of having several savings account to help with budgeting needs. Also, the videos that about how difficult it is to balance a family and career when you are an entrepreneur and own your own business.   The best advice I heard was to know that there are more important things than money and if it isn’t that important then you should be able to balance your life more easily.   What is your attitude toward money?  I’ve always been very frugal with the way that I’ve budgeted our money. Being a stay at home mom and not wa...

Week 10 Thoughts and Quotes

The biggest concept I learned throughout this week is that entrepreneurs should take risks.  You don't want to be a trustee when you can compete and do great things through taking those risks.  Also I enjoyed the quote by Taylor Richards when he said not to underestimate yourself , when you involve the Lord you can do great things.  Also, in license to pursue it was very interesting to hear how 2 1/2 times the output was made when google introduced 20% time to their employees. They gained more out of the employees using their personal time  to work on projects, then when they were normally working. By letting them do whatever they want, they were able to fuel their creativity and innovation's which in turn made more products to sell for Google.   After hearing from brother Richie, I would love to read the book you're emotional fingerprint, it sounds as if this would be a great book to help out our endeavors through the entrepreneurial process.  Quot...

Week 9 Thoughts and Quotes

Thoughts for week 9: This weeks lessons had leader written all over it.   This concept makes me think about my role as the mother in my home. It also makes me think about the "we know who wears the pants in your family." This describes me exceptionally well. Mostly because my husband is very passive. Which makes the family dynamics fall on me.  Being a mother has definitely given me a head start in the leadership department. I liked guy Kawasaki's talk about being a baker because you can make more pies and bigger pies. Also, he says they are the most trustworthy people. Learning this week to keep your ethical guard rails pasted on your mirror was also great advice.  My husband and I wrote on paper a few "will not's" for our guardrails after reading and understanding more about them in The Hero's Journey.   Now we just need to add "will do's" to this list to complete it.   The biggest thing I will take away from this week is being a discipl...

Week 8 Thoughts and quotes

Thoughts this week 8- The readings and videos were both really interesting this week, however, I particularly enjoyed the readings.  Elder Holland and President Monson both had excellent talks.  The point and greatest lesson I took away was perseverance in spite of what challenges life throws at us.   Taylor Richards in the video You Can Do Anything, says that we should keep moving forward and do the right things but always remember to involve the Lord. He also said don't ever under estimate yourself or the Lord. I think that if we can remember these aspects throughout our lives it will help when we end up facing trials.  David Carrington said we normally find the problems to solutions instead of finding the solution to the problem. We need to come up with solutions and when we do that can make us great entrepreneurs.  In order to be a good entrepreneur we need to clearly know who we are and what the brand is that we want.  In the book, A Field Guide To ...

Week 7 Thoughts and Quotes

President Hinckley gave some great advice when he gave that talk way back in '96.  I was actually a senior in High School and this is the first time I believe I have ever read it.  It means a lot to me to know that even the prophet struggled some when he was a child.  If only I would have listened to his advice as I grew up and graduated, i believe there is so much I would have done differently.  At the time, I was just living my life for me instead of thinking of others as much as I should have. The book Mastery was another game changer book for me.  There were so many important skills that I am so grateful to take away from it.  Such as, the plateau is where I will learn the most.  Also, the person who is the master at something will always have room to grow more and learn much.  The seven habits summary was nice to read and I looked forward to reading it this week. Out of each of the habits I am most related with Habit 5: Seek first to unders...
