Week 8 Thoughts and quotes
Thoughts this week 8-
The readings and videos were both really interesting this week, however, I particularly enjoyed the readings. Elder Holland and President Monson both had excellent talks. The point and greatest lesson I took away was perseverance in spite of what challenges life throws at us. Taylor Richards in the video You Can Do Anything, says that we should keep moving forward and do the right things but always remember to involve the Lord. He also said don't ever under estimate yourself or the Lord. I think that if we can remember these aspects throughout our lives it will help when we end up facing trials.
David Carrington said we normally find the problems to solutions instead of finding the solution to the problem. We need to come up with solutions and when we do that can make us great entrepreneurs. In order to be a good entrepreneur we need to clearly know who we are and what the brand is that we want.
In the book, A Field Guide To A Heroes Journey, I liked learning about the farmer who was dying and had his sons at his bedside and explained that somewhere out in the land there was a valuable treasure so they spent 2 to 3 times digging through the ground and had a tremendous success with crops that year when they realized that was the treasure.
Finally, I enjoyed reading about Nelson Mandela and how he was imprisoned for 27 years but continued to work for a quality while he remained in prison. The perseverance that this man exhibited is unprecedented. During an interview he once said that while he was in prison he refused to let his spirit be broken. This is something that I hope we can all take and remember when things in our life appear hard and tumultuous.
Quotes:
That “great work” is what, with effort and patience and God’s help, you can become. When days are difficult or problems seem unending, I plead with you to stay in the harness and keep pulling. You are entitled to “eat the good of the land of Zion in these last days,” but it will require your heart and a willing mind. It will require that you stay at your post and keep trying. -Holland
We have before us many, many long months of struggle and suffering. What is our aim? . . . Victory—victory at all costs; victory in spite of all terror; victory, however long and hard the road may be. . . .Conquer we must; as conquer we shall. . . . We shall never surrender.-Churchill
Blood? Toil? Tears? Sweat? Well, I figured I had as much of those as anyone, so I headed home to try. I was, in the parlance of the day, going to give it “my best shot,” however feeble that might prove to be. Now at the same time in your life, I ask you to do the same.-Holland

The only limitations you have are those you set on yourselves. All of the tools and texts are here, right at your hand. But sometimes we cannot recognize the real purpose and significance of the moment which is ours to experience. That’s because too many of us learn only through our heads and not through our hearts!-Holland
